Past, Present, Future
Hartford Lab was officially forged in November of 2012.
While we had political origins, HL quickly progressed into something of a ‘Business Development Accelerator meets Human Venture Capital Firm’.
By “Human VC”, we refer to the fact that we often structured lower-cost, alternative fee arrangements (e.g. equity, rev share) based on the stage and needs of the companies we worked with.
Over the years, we built out a portfolio of interesting (early-stage) technology companies and functioned as a holistic growth, operational, and advisory vehicle to them; while also providing counsel to the passionate entrepreneurs steering the ships.
Hartford Lab has been fortunate to work across a wide variety of industries (e.g. advertising, beauty, biotech, data, decentralized systems, entertainment, hardware, health, IoT/IoE, social media, VR/AR), with varying business structures (e.g. consumer, enterprise, marketplace, mobile, SaaS), and in different capacities along a spectrum of pre-funded ideas to publicly traded companies.
While we certainly gained a PhD from “the school of hard knocks” over the years, we also learned a lot and are proud of our work.
From our own returns, Hartford Lab then had the resources to begin focusing on the creation of new ventures internally and accelerating research & development (while naturally continuing to service our active portfolio and clientele, and still selectively engaging with new projects).
Now, 6 years in, we are especially excited for the latest chapter.
HL has launched our 1st investment vehicle: an angel fund called “Entropy Ventures” which will operate as both original capital & architectural adviser to visionary endeavors that produce fundamental value & advance the social good (i.e. solve a Problem of Our Time).
We seek to have an intimate and long-term connection with the founders and entities we back.
Hartford Lab has continued to bloom into an increasingly dynamic syndicate. As we look towards the future, we hope this trend continues.
